The Day of Infamy - Singapore Biathlon 2007

Below is a story about the biathlon Rob competed in with 2 of his Danish colleagues from APC...

Throughout the history of sports, there have been few dates that will always be known as a great performance by a certain athlete or a particular team. Many fans may know May 6th 1954 when Ray Bannister ran a sub 4 minute mile which until then had been the unthinkable or February 22nd 1980 when the USA Hockey team upset the mighty Russian Hockey team in the Olympics

All these dates hold a special place in the history of sports. The newest addition of infamous dates will be March 17th 2007! On this date, a soft spoken and humble young man from Texas competed against the mighty Viking athletes from Denmark! The morning of March 17th 2007 was not a typical Singaporean morning. There was a little bit of magic in the air that only the Texan could smell. As the three APC athletes made their way to the starting line, all seemed to be in high spirits and strong determination for the upcoming biathlon.

The first stage was a 1500 meter open water swim in the Singapore Straights followed by a 10 kilometer run in the tropical heat. As the starting flag was lowered, the 3 APC athletes hit the water with all their might causing a mini tsunami that was felt a few meters away by some small children playing in the surf.

As the athletes rounded the offshore buoy marker and made their way to shore, it was the Texan that had a slight lead on the Vikings. The fans erupted with cheer as the local fan favorite had made his move to the lead. This lead would not be given away for the remainder of the day!

The event was a success and all finished in respectable times.

Let it be known, Rob is the 4th fastest American that competed in Singapore!...something to brag about...his finishing time was 1:26! The other guys were 1:33 and 1:47. Good Job Robby!
